Waste types

It is a legal requirement for all customers hiring a skip to inform us of the type of waste they plan to dispose of. Certain materials, such as hazardous waste, which includes asbestos, batteries and chemicals, cannot be handled by skip hire services and must instead be disposed of using licensed specialist services.

Providing this information prior to hiring our skips also allows us to recommend the most suitable type and size of skip for your specific needs.

Different types of waste we accept

Heavy inert

Heavy inert waste consists of dense, non-reactive materials typically found in construction and landscaping projects. Examples include concrete, bricks and gravel. For the disposal of rubble, we offer dedicated hardcore-only skips, though additional fees may apply if the waste is contaminated. These materials do not decompose or release harmful chemicals, making them relatively safe for disposal and often suitable for recycling or reuse.

Mixed construction and demolition waste

Mixed construction and demolition waste includes a combination of materials generated from building, renovating or demolishing structures. This may include wood, metal, plastic, insulation, concrete and other debris. Our team is equipped to sort and recycle these materials in line with industry guidelines, reducing environmental impact and ensuring responsible disposal.

Plasterboard

Plasterboard waste refers to gypsum-based boards used in construction, also known as drywall. It cannot be disposed of alongside general waste due to its potential to release harmful gases when decomposed in landfills. It requires separate handling and recycling to minimise environmental harm and ensure proper disposal. Rabbit Skip Hire is fully registered with the Environmental Agency under the Control of Pollution Act 1989.

Wood

Wood-only non-hazardous waste consists of untreated, uncontaminated wood from sources such as construction, carpentry or demolition. Untreated, uncontaminated wood is recyclable and can be repurposed into wood chips or mulch. It can also be used as a biomass fuel, which we process at our energy recovery facility.
