Hiring a skip is great way to get rid of waste and rubbish when having a mammoth clear-out or carrying out a home renovation project or garden clearance. But before you hire your skip, you make sure that there’s enough room in the location you plan to site it. Here are some helpful points to think about before choosing the size of skip you need.
I don’t have a driveway. Can I still hire a skip?
If you don’t have a driveway or private land where a skip can be placed, you can apply for a skip permit to allow the skip to be placed on the public road outside your home. If the skip will be sited in a carpark or restricted parking area you may also need to apply for a parking bay restriction through your local council.
How big does my driveway need to be for a skip?
Our skips come in all different sizes so we can help you find the right size skip for the space you have available and the job you need it for. Our smallest skip is our mini skip, holding about 40 black bags of waste and is 6ft x 4.6ft. Most driveways can accommodate a skip of this size and it’s the ideal skip size for garden clearances and small building jobs.
How much access room do I need for the skip delivery?
All our skips are delivered on large, heavy vehicles. If you’re hiring one of our larger 6 yard to 12 yard skips, we usually need a minimum 2.9m (9ft 6in) clearance width. For our midi 2 yard and midi 4 yard skips, we usually need a minimum 1.9m (7ft 6in) clearance width. But it’s not just width, there should also be good height clearance.
Can the skip go in my garden?
We can deliver skips into your garden provided there is sufficient access. The skip will also need to be placed on a solid surface as even empty skips are extremely heavy.
