We are proud of our affiliations with the wider waste management industry. One of the organisations we’re associated with is the Chartered Institute of Wastes Management (CIWM), a professional body for resource and waste experts.
What do the CIWM do?
As the leading institution for the industry, CIWM provides its 6000 members with the latest news about relevant topics and legislation. They champion the work of both individuals and organisations working within the industry, assess the impact of industry issues and take an active role in developing its members too.
Homing in on seven focus areas
The CIWM has distilled its thinking into seven key areas. It has created specific policies that focus on Fighting Waste Crime, the Circular Economy, Sustainable Resource and Waste Management, a Fit for Purpose Workforce, Producer Responsibility, Public Sector Duty and Supply Chain Waste.
Producing reports and research
A number of reports are produced annually that focus on the most topical and pressing issues for the industry. In 2017, these included a look into policy implications for Brexit for the UK waste and resource management sector, and the impact that digital technology and consumer trends will have on waste and resource management.
Providing training, development, events and networking opportunities
The CIWM is an active organisation, regularly hosting networking and training events for its members, focussing on their development and the creation of best practice in the industry and raising professional standards.
