We’ve been working closely with Manhattan to help them achieve their objective of minimising the effects of our operation on the environment.
With Rabbit’s help Manhattan have gradually been reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill sites. Together we now turn over 98% of their waste materials into electricity, which is then fed back into the national grid.
Manhattan have been using Rabbit’s near-zero landfill waste service to achieve their goals. Waste materials are separated in to 2 groups – recyclables and non-recyclables. Materials such as hard plastic’s, plastic film and metal are sent to the appropriate industries to be reused, any remaining materials are then processed and burnt to generate steam which produces up to 5 megawatts of green electricity.
Manhattan are setting an excellent example in how to successfully run a ‘lean manufacturing’ process and have taken their commitment to sustainability further, reducing the amount of electricity they consume by 29%.
Rabbit are committed to helping reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, and using it for good. We are a part of WRAP’s ‘Halving Waste to Landfill’ programme, and are proud to say we now divert 150,000 tonnes of waste away from landfill sites every year.
